Asbestos Mesothelioma Information

Pleural Mesothelioma

The most common type of mesothelioma is malignant pleural mesothelioma making up over 66% of all cases. Pleural mesothelioma is a cancer that is found in the sac lining of the chest, covering areas around the lungs and inside the chest cavity known as the pleura.

It is hard to diagnose pleural mesothelioma and it is frequently misdiagnosed. You should inform your doctor if you have any of the mesothelioma symptoms and a prior exposure to asbestos, even if the exposure was 30 or 40 years ago. One of the most common and specific symptoms of this cancer is the accumulation of fluid between the lungs and chest cavity. This fluid (pleural effusion) is often visible in X-rays.
