Asbestosis is caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibers. Asbestos fibers breathed into the lungs cause inflammation and irritation. Additional inflammation and damage occurs to the lungs as the body tries to rid itself of these foreign particles naturally. The continual damage creates scar tissue or fibrosis in the alveoli of the lungs and breathing becomes shallower and more difficult.
People most at risk for developing asbestosis are workers with years of exposure
to asbestos, typically construction material manufacturers in textile plants
or those with frequent contact with insulation, roofing shingles, flooring,
cement, and brake & clutch linings. When tiny particles of asbestos escape
into the air during manufacturing, inhalation or ingestion of those particles
can lead to very serious health problems. There is no known cure for asbestosis
and those inflicted are at high risk for developing mesothelioma,
a rare form of lung cancer.
Persons afflicted with Asbestosis may have a legal case and should consult an asbestosis law firm.
